Mission Presbytery has granted the vote at Presbytery meetings to Certified Christian Educators under the following conditions:
The Certified Christian Educator be an elder.
The Educator be currently employed at least half time as a Christian Educator in this Presbytery.
The privilege of vote be automatically terminated when employment, as mentioned above ceases.
That such voting privilege be explicitly granted by vote of the presbytery at the meeting immediately following the Educator's first becoming eligible by reason of employment or certification.
That the Session employing the Educator elect that person as a commissioner to each presbytery meeting as a commissioner in addition to those allowed by the presbytery voting formula.
Grace Presbytery has a history of support of church educators. The Presbytery's Manual of Operations provides the privilege of the floor for church educators. It also provides for the vote at presbytery meetings for Certified and Certified Associate Educators who have been ordained as elders.
The Committee on Ministry is intentional and "on record" as exercising pastoral care and support for educators. Educator terms of call are reported in the COM document for presbytery meetings. Further, Grace Presbytery has set minimum terms of call for Certified Educators to be on par with that of first year pastors.
Educators are included in all presbytery mailings and receive presbytery meeting information. The attendance registration process at presbytery meetings includes church educators as an identifiable group (i.e. not "visitors").
The Educator Network of Grace Presbytery is an important part of the support and nurture of our educators. Christian Educators and Youth leaders in Grace Presbytery gather four times a year for "Educator Gatherings" and one of those gatherings is usually an overnight retreat. These are times of networking, fellowship, sharing of information and providing nurture and support to one another.
